Full-time Ruby on Rails Developer

Paydici is adding a Ruby on Rails developer to our Portland staff. This will be a salaried full-time position.

If you’re the ideal candidate:

* You’ve done production and/or open-source Ruby on Rails development for at least a year, and have at least two years of real-world experience working as a software developer in a professional capacity.

* You have strong design skills, and you are capable of crafting great user experiences with (x)HTML, CSS, and Javascript. You’re well-versed in a Javascript framework, ideally jQuery.

* You have enthusiasm for test-driven development: We use Test::Unit, but experience with RSpec or Shoulda is desirable; Selenium experience would be a plus.

* You have experience with the usual development tools, including Subversion or Git, Firebug or Web Inspector, ruby-debug, Capistrano, and an issue-tracking system or two, and you know your way around a Linux command line.

* You know your way around SQL, at least enough to understand the performance implications of what ActiveRecord generates for you; experience working directly with MySQL would be great.

* You are self-motivated, work well independently, and have good written and verbal communication skills.

About us:

Paydici is a small, entrepreneurial financial services company that’s building a framework for improving the way rent payment works today. We currently have an early version serving real customers, funding from investors relevant to our business, and a fantastic and enthusiastic early team. This is a challenging industry, but one that presents an enormous amount of opportunity for companies that care about non-traditional things (to the financial technology space) like user experience.

We have a very grounded revenue model, and (we like to think) a pragmatic philosophy about growth. The company is not “built to flip,” and our success doesn’t depend on any social and/or viral effect.

Aside from all of the technical qualifications, we are looking for someone who is entrepreneurial and passionate about the results of their hard work; someone who is excited about helping to grow a young company and interested in the opportunity to contribute to many different aspects of the business.

We are based out of NedSpace in downtown Portland.
